Zoran Oluic Promoted to WSP USA National Director of Substations

With substations playing a key role in the creation of resilient power systems as part of the clean energy transition, Oluic’s experience will be crucial in this national leadership role at WSP.

Zoran Oluic has been promoted to national director of substations at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.

Oluic currently leads WSP’s multidisciplinary engineering team on the AVANGRID Brightline Bulk Electric System (BES) program, where WSP is serving as program manager and owner’s engineer. The BES program will significantly increase the capacity and reliability of the electrical transmission and distribution system in upstate New York and Maine; it includes the development and upgrade of more than 40 transmission and distribution substations, which convert high-voltage energy to a level suitable for consumers, and more than 200 miles of transmission lines.

In his new role, Oluic will apply his extensive expertise in substation engineering and experience managing project teams to support power clients across the U.S. in developing and upgrading their networks to improve efficiency and reliability.

“Substations play an important role in the overall security, resiliency and sustainability of the electric grid, along with other transmission and distribution components,” said Mike Case, WSP Energy business line executive. “We serve power clients across the whole cycle of project development, from planning through execution and ongoing operation and maintenance. Zoran’s work will be an essential part of this integrated service offering at a national level, and his prior experience on one of our largest transmission and distribution projects makes him an excellent fit.”

Oluic has been with WSP for 13 years and brings 20 years of experience to his new role. His technical expertise covers power transmission and distribution, protection, control, automation and remote-control center/supervisory control and data acquisition applications. He has also worked as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor and has managed tasks related to design, engineering, factory assembly, factory testing, installation, site testing, and commissioning of protection, control and automation equipment for transmission and distribution substations, power plants and industrial facilities.

Oluic is a graduate of the University of Zagreb, Croatia with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He is also a chartered engineer with the UK Engineering Council.
