WSP USA Looks to Joe Sczurko for Earth and Environment Leadership

Joseph (Joe) Sczurko has been appointed president of Earth & Environment (E&E) at WSP USA, a leading environmental, engineering and professional services consultancy.

Sczurko assumed his executive role following the acquisition of the Environment & Infrastructure business (“E&I”) of John Wood Group plc (“Wood”), where he served as executive president of Wood’s global consulting business unit.

“Our U.S. E&E business has more than doubled in size with the recent addition of the E&I business, expanding the reach of our team’s expertise, ingenuity and innovation to help a broader mix of clients solve society’s largest environmental and climate-related challenges,” said Lou Cornell, president and CEO of WSP USA. “Joe’s leadership, vision and expertise will be essential to realize our U.S. Strategic Plan and ambition of being the premier environmental consulting firm in the country.”

Sczurko has spent more than 36 years in consulting engineering in the U.S. and globally. He brings deep exposure to a broad range of services, market sectors and clients, as well as experience in operations, project delivery and growth strategies. He has built a strong reputation in the industry with clients as a strategic advisor and he is passionate in helping them achieve their ultimate business objectives.

At Wood Consulting, a global 12,000-person business unit providing technical and business consulting services for environmental, infrastructure, energy, power and digital technology projects, Sczurko spearheaded the sales process for the $1.8 billion divestiture of the E&I consulting business. Prior to that effort, he was responsible for the company’s group global strategy and development function, leading its strategic emphasis in the energy transition and sustainable infrastructure.

“I’m proud to be joining WSP USA as president of E&E at a time when environmental and infrastructure needs and challenges are a national priority,” Sczurko said. “Collaborating across WSP, I know we have significant opportunities to develop and deliver unique solutions for our clients. Today, ESG [environmental, social and governance] requirements and considerations are central to virtually every project in every sector. Harnessing our collective power in WSP, we have a brilliant future ahead, and I’m excited about the opportunity to bring enhanced value to clients through our strengthened service capability, deep portfolio of technical experts, technology innovations and commitment to client focus.”

Sczurko is a graduate of Brown University and holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He has also earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a master of business administration degree from the University of Southern Maine.

WSP’s E&E business in the U.S. comprises approximately 6,000 professionals delivering innovative solutions in all segments of the environment sector and supporting major infrastructure and development projects across the transportation, water and wastewater, power and energy, industrial, mining, oil and gas, ESG, resilience and federal markets. Combined, WSP’s global environmental resources of more than 23,000 professionals ideally position the firm to lead the acceleration of the world’s green transition.
