WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff designing Mountain Parkway widening in Kentucky

Lexington, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded a contract to WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff to finalize design plans for the widening of a segment of the Mountain Parkway in Wolfe County. The project entails widening to four lanes an 11-mile segment of the parkway in Eastern Kentucky, including reconstruction of two interchanges and numerous crossroads.

Structural plans will be developed for nine bridges and 11 box culverts, and numerous retaining walls and lighting plans will be developed for the interchanges. Right-of-way plans will also be developed for approximately 100 parcels that are expected to be impacted by the project.

The Wolfe County project is part of the 46-mile Mountain Parkway Expansion, which will complete a 400-mile, four-lane, high-speed corridor across Kentucky. The infrastructure improvements are intended to enhance connectivity between Eastern Kentucky and the rest of the Commonwealth, expanding economic development and job creation by providing a safer and more efficient corridor.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff will complete the design by 2018.
