WSP Debuts ‘Are You Future Ready®?’ Game

WSP’s scenario-planning challenge is designed to help organizations better define their own journey to achieve their sustainable development goals while expanding awareness about the impact of climate change.

NEW YORK — Timed to align with the United Nation’s COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, WSP today announced the unveiling of Are You Future Ready®?, a cutting-edge digital game designed to add an interactive and dynamic dimension to how WSP engages with clients about how they become future ready organizations.

The dynamic web-based game is a scenario-planning challenge created by Alastair MacGregor, president of Property and Buildings at WSP in the U.S., and Jay Aber, vice president and national Future Ready® program lead at WSP. The online game is inspired by the key messages within the book MacGregor co-authored, Future Ready: Your Organization’s Guide to Rethinking Climate, Resilience, and Sustainabilitypublished earlier this year.

MacGregor said the book was the first piece of a roadmap to help organizations navigate global challenges and achieve their sustainable development goals. Are You Future Ready® is the next.

“Why a game?” MacGregor asked. “Well, at WSP, we are finding that it helps create a more engaging conversation, breaking down internal barriers and facilitating a more candid conversation about the impact of climate on an organization. It can help define a path to achieve an organization’s Future Ready vision, while at the same time being a fun way to expand individual awareness about climate change issues and impacts. It makes complex climate topics real and personal, making the transformation to becoming Future Ready seem more achievable.”

As COP28 begins, MacGregor expects lively climate related discussions not only in Dubai, but also in workplaces, homes and on social media platforms. Within WSP’s teams, we expect this online game will create deeper discussions both internally and with our clients, resulting in more credible action.

“A common challenge is learning about sector and geographic priorities and understanding the impact on an organization,” Aber said. “Producing useful insights and discovering the secrets to forming Future Ready teams, both internally to WSP and within our client organizations, that are prepared to address the world’s biggest challenges is what I am really excited about. Better understanding these trends will help us support our clients as they seek to become Future Ready organizations.”

MacGregor said the web-based experience has already elevated how WSP teams are collaborating with clients.

“This digital game illustrates concepts in a way that’s not about winning or losing,” he said. “By engaging with our clients in this fun and different way, we gain a more genuine understanding of their vision, and can often identify opportunities to then dive deeper into strategies that provide resilience, decarbonization and societal benefit that really resonate within their organization.”

Working with a variety of clients, WSP has helped make communities Future Ready by delivering transformative infrastructure and resilient built environments around the world.

“Becoming Future Ready is not about a particular technology or implementing a single organizational change,” MacGregor said. “It is essentially about understanding and engaging people in a way that can create a common vision that spans the organization and provides organizational insights to operationalize that vision through surgically deployed tactical investments to enhance the societal, climate or resilience performance. By promoting a different kind of conversation and encouraging collaborative action, we are hopeful that the Are You Future Ready? digital game builds upon the momentum of the book and inspires individuals and organizations to take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable and resilient future.”

Are You Future Ready? highlights the need to rethink the climate agenda and stresses the importance of collaborative action for a better future,” Aber added. “Get ready to level up!”
