Woodland-Davis DBO water project breaks ground

Denver — The Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency (WDCWA) hosted a groundbreaking event on April 10 to observe the start of construction on the new regional surface water treatment plant, expected to open in fall 2016. WDCWA awarded CH2M HILL, a global full service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm, a $141 million contract for the design, construction, and long-term operation of the facility.

The project will replace deteriorating groundwater supplies with safe, more reliable surface water supplies from the Sacramento River. The Design-Build-Operate (DBO) project will optimize construction and operation costs for the Cities of Woodland and Davis and when complete, divert approximately 45,000 acre-feet of water per year from the Sacramento River. In addition, the project will supply 30 million gallons of water per day to water customers in Woodland and Davis and potentially UC Davis, with future expansion capabilities to 34 mgd.

The surface water treatment system includes construction of a jointly owned and operated water intake on the Sacramento River, raw water pipelines connecting the intake to a new regional water treatment plant, and separate pipelines delivering treated water to Woodland and Davis. Additional improvements to the cities’ existing water supply systems, including distribution pipelines, water storage tanks, and pump stations, are also included in the project scope.
