WOODARD & CURRAN NAMES NEW PRESIDENT OF CONSULTING

Woodard & Curran CEO Alyson Watson recently announced the appointment of Joe Barbagallo, PE, BCEE as the firm’s next President of Consulting for the industry-leading water and environmental firm, as of January 1, 2021.

“Operational experience and demonstrated leadership within consulting and across the organization are qualities I considered vital to the success of our next President of Consulting,” said Watson. “Joe has held various leadership positions in which he has demonstrated these qualities in addition to his passion for our people and their individual success. He has launched several innovative initiatives and expanded our consulting footprint to Florida and the Midwest. His depth of experience and focus on putting people first made Joe the clear choice for this important position.”

A graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Columbia University, Barbagallo has more than 30 years of experience serving public and private clients on a wide range of civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering projects. He joined Woodard & Curran in 2005, assumed the role of civil engineering service line leader in 2007, and, in 2014, was promoted to Municipal & Institutional Business Leader. The business unit, which includes drinking water, stormwater, wastewater, community development, urban revitalization, solid waste, and intelligent technology practices, has seen notable growth in revenue and expanded to a national footprint under Barbagallo’s leadership. He has fostered development of technical talent and thought leaders, while also providing significant opportunities for our employees to pursue their passions and build their careers. Barbagallo has served as a member of the firm’s Board of Directors since 2016 and is currently chair of the Finance Committee. He spearheaded numerous company initiatives, developing our technology and innovation strategy, introducing practice organization to the firm, and creating Communities of Practice to leverage our deep bench of expertise in serving our public and private clients.

“When I think of my vision for the future of Woodard & Curran, it really is about building on the foundation of the past,” said Barbagallo. “As President of Consulting, I hope to continue driving alignment across the organization, taking a client-centric approach while providing opportunities for our people, and continuing to advance as thought leaders in the industry so that we can  best serve our clients and address rapidly changing client needs with creative solutions. Alyson and I are also focused on taking our Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance to the next level to highlight the incredible, positive impacts we are making on the environment in the communities where we live and work.”

Barbagallo’s appointment comes as Phyllis Brunner transitions out of the position. Brunner, who has more than 40 years of civil and environmental engineering experience, returned to Woodard & Curran in 2016. Her leadership was instrumental during the acquisition and integration of RMC Water, the transition of leaders for both the firm’s Environmental & Remediation and Industrial & Commercial business units, and significant revenue growth across the firm’s technical practices.

“During Phyllis’ tenure as President of Consulting, our business units have evolved and grown while bringing a one-company approach to serve our clients,” said Watson, adding that Brunner will oversee the role transition through March 2021. “Phyllis’ steady hand enabled the teams to achieve business success in the midst of a global pandemic, and the work she spearheaded to integrate long-term efficiencies as we return to the offices will lay the foundation for continued success.”
