Wind slows Milton-Madison Bridge slide

Madison, Ind. and Milton, Ky. — The slide of the Milton-Madison Bridge resumed Thursday morning, April 10, after modifications were made overnight to better deal with windy conditions. On Wednesday, April 9, the bridge slid 16 feet laterally before it was stopped due to winds over the Ohio River. Time-lapse video of yesterday’s slide can be seen below.

Walsh Construction, which is building the Milton-Madison Bridge, brought in materials from the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project to assist in the control of synchronizing the slide onto its five piers.

The bridge has less than 40 feet yet to slide. And while it can slide as much as 10 feet per hour, many stops are taken along the way as part of the process. Weather conditions may prevent the slide from being completed on Thursday.
