Ware Malcomb wins LABJ Commercial Real Estate Award

Los Angeles — Ware Malcomb, an international design firm, was honored for its work with a 2015 Commercial Real Estate Award from the Los Angeles Business Journal for the third consecutive year.  The firm’s architectural design for the redevelopment of the 91-acre Mission 71 Business Park project located in Pomona, Calif. earned a Silver Award for Best Industrial Project.

This is the third Commercial Real Estate Award Ware Malcomb has been awarded by the Los Angeles Business Journal in as many years.  The firm previously received a Silver Award in the office category for its work in designing the new 100,000 square foot Stamps.com corporate headquarters in 2014, and a Silver Award for Best Industrial Building for 9to5 Seating’s corporate headquarters in 2013.  

Ware Malcomb provided architectural services for the Mission 71 Business Park project, which involved Phases II and III, Buildings L, M, N and O located at 1793 West 2nd Street, 1788 West 2nd Street, 1768 West 2nd Street and 1585 West Mission Boulevard in Pomona, Calif.  The 91-acre site was formerly the Federal Government’s Naval Industrial Reserve Ordinance Plant used to manufacture weapons and military devices dating back to the Korean War.  When the project is complete, it will house more than 1,750 employees.  Architectural design elements include extensive cornice treatments on the entire perimeter, as well as horizontal and vertical articulations and glass to break up the building mass and provide visual interest.

The Ware Malcomb-designed project was recognized at an award ceremony on February 17, 2015 and featured in a special section in the February 23, 2015 edition of the Los Angeles Business Journal.

The project was managed out of Ware Malcomb’s Irvine, Calif. headquarters office, and led by Tom Myers, Ware Malcomb Principal of Commercial Architecture.  “This was a truly unique opportunity to take an old government manufacturing facility and redevelop the site with new buildings for a beautiful and functional industrial space,” said Myers.

The developer for the project was Seventh Street Development, Inc. and the General Contractor was HBI Construction, Inc.
