Houston, Texas  — VLK Architects and Galena Park Independent School District board members joined together to commemorate the new Jacinto City Elementary School Replacement with a dedication ceremony. The theme, incorporating a nod to the previous elementary school, includes the desires of the community as expressed by design teams composed of district and campus leaders, teachers, community members, and students.

“This school and community have been a special part of my life for so long. I continue to be grateful for my teaching experiences in the old building, and am now blessed to be part of the team that designed the new one. I’m particularly excited that the beloved mural now has a new place of prominence. May this new building continue to produce excellence. Once a tiger, always a tiger,” said Dalane Bouillion Ed. D., VLK Architects Education Planner and Principal.

DBR Engineering, Matrix Structural Engineers, Brooks & Sparks Consulting Engineers, and Foodservice Design Professionals implemented the school’s construction, which is a part of the voter-approved 2016 GPISD school bond project. The $26 million new school is 119,000 SF, two stories, and will serve 966 students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade.

“Today has been a dream to so many for a while. To say that the Jacinto City Community is excited would be an understatement,” said Dr. John Moore, Galena Park ISD Superintendent.

The new design introduced collaboration spaces to support student academic collaboration and socialization and science labs, with access to the outdoors, for meaningful content instruction. An abundance of natural light throughout provides a warm learning environment. The hand-tiled mural from the previous school was saved and installed in the new building. It will welcome new students and serve as a reminder of the roots of Jacinto City Elementary.
