URS named a top corporation for womens business enterprises

San Francisco — URS Corporation was recently named to the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council’s (WBENC) 15th annual list of America’s Top Corporations for Women’s Business Enterprises. The Top Corporations award is given to companies with exemplary, leading supplier diversity programs. URS was one of only 45 companies honored.

Wendy Lopez, Vice President, Texas/Oklahoma Regional Manager, was one of several attendees representing URS at the event. “We believe a reliable pool of small business partners is integral to URS’ success,” she said. “Our women-owned business partners complement the company’s capabilities and demonstrate our commitment to exceeding subcontracting goals. Our corporate resume, which includes work with small businesses, veteran-owned businesses, women-owned, and disadvantaged businesses, has had a tremendous influence on our ability to win more work with federal and municipal clients. Receiving this award from WBENC strengthens that resume.”

URS’ selection was based on several factors, including the company’s demonstrated ability to exceed the federally mandated goal of 5 percent of total procurement spend for women-owned small business (WOSB). URS has exceeded this goal for the past five years. Another factor in winning the award was the company’s support for WOSB participation through national outreach and mentor/protégé opportunities.

“Many of the companies named on the prestigious list include URS clients and other leaders in the markets we serve,” stated Sam Artis, URS Small Business Liaison Officer. “It is noteworthy to be included on this list; our recognition among these companies elevates the visibility of our efforts to exceed federal subcontracting goals.”

Jennifer Tamburino, a URS Federal Program Manager, reiterated the importance of women-owned businesses in URS’ subcontractor portfolio. “In our federal work, strong and talented WOSB teaming partners have been essential to significant URS contract awards, and they have provided exceptional service to our clients and to URS,” she noted.
