Two new structural publications available from SKGA

PALATINE, ILL. — S. K. Ghosh Associates Inc. announced the availability of two new publications for structural engineers.

The first, authored by S. K. Ghosh and Prabuddha Dasgupta, is called Seismic and Wind Design of Concrete Buildings (2009 IBC/ASCE 7-05/ACI 318-08), and is available for $88. This publication provides comprehensive coverage of seismic and wind design provisions and discusses the response of concrete buildings to earthquake and wind forces. Application is illustrated by designing and detailing typical structural members in buildings in areas of low, moderate, and high seismic risk on different types of soil. Six chapters cover the design of office, residential, and school buildings featuring the various seismic force-resting systems recognized in the IBC and ASCE 7.

The second, Significant Changes to the Seismic Load Provisions of ASCE 7-10: An Illustrated Guide, by S. K. Ghosh, Susan Dowty, and Prabuddha Dasgupta, is available for $85. This publication focuses on the revisions to the seismic load requirements set forth in the latest edition of the standard for minimum design loads. Mirroring the organization of the seismic chapters in ASCE 7-10, this handy reference briefly summarizes each change to the seismic provisions that might affect actual practice or enforcement and immediately follows up with the precise wording of the change. The impact of each update is explained in clear, straightforward language accompanied by diagrams, examples, and color photographs and illustrations to enrich the reader’s understanding.
