Two commercial and five institutional projects honored with Awards of Excellence

Chicago — Two commercial and five institutional projects were named winners in the 2014 Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Design Awards competition. Twenty-four awards were presented to projects from throughout North America at the 52nd annual PCI Design Awards, which includes best-in-class awards for both transportation structures and buildings, as well as special awards for industry advancement, sustainable design, and all-precast concrete.

The PCI Design Awards recognize design excellence and construction quality using precast concrete. The program demonstrates how designers are continuing to use precast/prestressed concrete components to achieve sustainable, more cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing, and quickly constructed projects. The 2014 awards program also took the structures’ high performance attributes into consideration.

“It was a tough competition,” said Don Powell Jr., principal-in-charge at BOKA Powell architecture firm and one of the building awards judges. “We saw many innovative applications of this technology that resulted in low-cost, high-quality finishes and exceptional quality control.”

The award-winning commercial and institutional projects are listed below. Additional details and photos for each of these projects, as well as the full list of winners and honorable mentions, are available at www.pci.org/2014designawards
