Thornton Tomasetti to sponsor Building Envelope & Large Structures track at ATC & SEI Advances in Hurricane Engineering Conference

NEW YORK – Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm, will be a sponsor of the Building Envelope and Large Structures track at the ATC & SEI Advances in Hurricane Engineering Conference on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami located at 255 Biscayne Boulevard Way in Miami, Fla. The track will consist of three sessions at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale Principal Ronald M. Jezerinac, Jr., P.E., S.E., will introduce the sessions, which will include the presentation of a report on the effect of hurricane winds on tall buildings, co-authored by Dennis Poon, P.E., vice chairman of the firm.

The Applied Technology Council (ATC) and the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will offer a conference where engineering professionals can come together to discuss the evolution of design practices in building and infrastructure to meet the challenges presented by strong hurricanes. The conference will define what is known, gauge the impact of that knowledge, and outline what must be learned for the future.
