Subsurface engineering pioneer joins McKim & Creed

Raleigh—Raleigh-based McKim & Creed, Inc., one of the largest surveying and mapping firms in the South, welcomes Thomas R. Rock as the company’s Mid-Atlantic subsurface utility engineering (SUE) manager. In this role, he will oversee McKim & Creed’s professional SUE services from Georgia to Pennsylvania.

SUE was established as an engineering process in the early 1980s to locate, identify and designate underground utilities. It has been credited with helping prevent accidents associated with underground utilities on construction sites.

Mr. Rock began his SUE career in 1992, making him one of the first practitioners in the country. During his nearly 40-year career he has been involved with every facet of the industry, from working on SUE crews to managing projects to leading a national SUE company.

Mr. Rock is a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in industrial technology. “I am happy to join the McKim & Creed team and look forward to expanding our SUE services throughout the Mid-Atlantic region,” he said.
