Stantec expands Smart Mobility Sector with appointment of two regional practice leads

New York, NY; Chicago, IL-TSX, NYSE: STN

Leading global design firm Stantec has expanded its Smart Mobility practice with the appointment of April Schneider as Practice Lead for the US Northeast region and Becca Wagner as Practice Lead for the US North Central region. Reporting to Smart Mobility Sector Leader Kate Jack, each will be responsible for collaborating across the firm’s Smart Mobility practice and wider disciplines to deliver projects and lead business development in their respective regions while strengthening relationships with existing clients.

“Mobility is undergoing a major transformation, and our deep experience in smart mobility deployment uniquely positions us to be at the forefront of this innovation,” said Jack. “By introducing regional practice leads into our Smart Mobility team, we can start locally to bring the right people to the table to make projects successful, then scale them to the benefit of communities across the globe.”

April Schneider is an Associate in Stantec’s New York City office, where she works on a variety of public infrastructure projects, helping teams identify opportunities for sustainable or resilient design principles in planning and design projects. She recently led a team of Stantec engineers to analyze the opportunity for reducing freight demand on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway as part of a larger strategy to reconsider urban highways. Prior to joining Stantec, she worked on integrated infrastructure plans for cities, districts, and developments around the world.

“We continue to see a collective rethinking of urban streets and transportation in the US, reinforced by many of the dramatic changes experienced at the onset of the pandemic,” said Schneider. “Simultaneously, momentum for emerging modes and mobility services continues to grow. The strength of our Smart Mobility sector is in helping clients prepare for and leverage technology without romanticizing it, and I’m excited to join this forward-thinking team.”

Becca Wagner joins Stantec’s Chicago office, bringing over five years of experience in smart mobility, with a particular focus on municipal applications. Her past project experience includes the complete street design for the MCORE project in Champaign-Urbana, IL, and the successful grant application for the Peoria Regional Living Laboratory in Peoria, IL. She is a graduate of Bradley University, with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. In the US North Central region, Wagner will draw on extensive experience in traffic modeling and complete streets to contribute to the development and implementation of smart corridors throughout Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Priority areas for the region will include shared and micromobility solutions, supporting the adoption of electric vehicles, mobility hubs, and building connected infrastructure.

”The Midwest has always been a transportation hub, made up of movers and producers. Mobility is in our DNA,” said Wagner. “I’m thrilled to bring smart mobility solutions to our communities, pushing us to the forefront of adoption and innovation.”

Stantec’s North American Smart Mobility practice has been engaged in numerous notable projects, including the launch of ACTIVE-AURORA, Canada’s first Connected Vehicle Testbed; Tulsa, OK’s Mobility Innovation Strategy; and the engineering behind the Intelligent Transport Systems that enabled autonomous shuttles in Montreal, the first self-driving vehicles on urban public roads in Québec.
