Schwartz presented with —Women in Water Award—

SEAFORD, DEL. — Judy A. Schwartz, P.E., LEED AP, with George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB), received the first annual “Women in Water Award” from the Delaware Office of Drinking Water. The award spotlights the noteworthy contributions that women have made to the water and wastewater industry.

Schwartz was nominated by her long-time client, The City of Seaford, with whom she has worked for the past 30 years. She has played an integral part in the development and expansion of the city’s infrastructure, allowing the city to grow.

While presenting the award on May 21, Seaford City Manager Dolores Slatcher said, “Judy is one of the most dedicated engineers I have worked with. It does not matter time of day, day of week, or placing her own well-being first, she is there to take care of our community.”

Schwartz recently spearheaded Seaford’s Washington Street Flood Control and Stormwater Retrofits project, which won a 2013 Delaware American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Engineering Excellence Honor Award. The project addressed repetitive extreme flooding with a new stormwater piping system, and also incorporated green infrastructure elements to improve the water quality in stormwater runoff to the Nanticoke River.
