Schnabel recognized for Virginia dam designs

Glen Allen, Va. — Schnabel Engineering, Inc. served as the designer for three of the projects that received Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Association (VLWA) Dam Safety Committee Awards at this year’s Virginia Water Conference.  The VLWA Dam Awards Program, in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Division of Dam Safety and Floodplain Management, recognizes owners, operators and maintainers of dams in Virginia for various categories.

The three projects were:

· Ragged Mountain Reservoir Dam in Albemarle County owned by the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority – Best Major Construction or Rehabilitation Project. Schnabel designed the new replacement dam to address dam safety deficiencies with the old dam and to increase the size of the water supply reservoir to meet demands.

· Coles Run Dam in Augusta County owned by the Augusta County Service Authority – Most Improved Dam.  Schnabel designed improvements to meet dam safety regulations.

· Stony Creek Dam in Bedford County owned by the Bedford Regional Water Authority – Most Improved Dam.  Schnabel designed improvements to meet dam safety regulations.
