Schmidt Associates hires Joseph Jarzen as Community studio client liaison

The leadership of Indianapolis-based Schmidt Associates, a regional architecture, engineering, and interior design firm, is pleased to announce that Joseph Jarzen has been named a client liaison for the firm’s community, lifestyle, and workplace studio.

With a Bachelor of Arts in History from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University, Jarzen previously served as vice president of program strategy for Keep Indianapolis Beautiful where he oversaw community engagement, education, geographic information systems, and volunteers while developing metrics and long-term impact goals. He sits on the City of Indianapolis’ Greenways Development Committee, is a member of Indiana Landmarks, and serves as the treasurer of the Franklin County Citizens for Historic Preservation. Additionally, he has authored two books about the National Road and has been featured in a PBS documentary.

“I’m thrilled to be working for one of the Midwest’s most respected architecture, engineering, and interior design firms to help in influencing the future of workplace, lifestyle, and community organizations,” Jarzen said. “After spending 21 years helping communities preserve historic structures and enhance natural landscapes, I am looking forward to continuing to positively impact change through good design, responsible stewardship, and servant leadership.”

Jarzen will be responsible for building connections within the community, enhancing relationships with key decision-makers, and developing revenue streams for the firm with the end goal of working with designers to improve the Midwest’s built environment.

“After working with Joseph on several community improvement initiatives, I can unequivocally say that having him as a firm employee is a tremendous win for our Owners and for us,” said CEO and Principal Sarah Hempstead, AIA, LEED AP. “With his genuine desire to be transparent and authentic, combined with a passion for building and enhancing communities, I cannot wait to see how he will positively contribute to the firm’s future.”
