RPS Klotz Associates awarded TPWA Project of the Year

Houston — A City of Houston stormwater planning project by Texas-based civil engineering firm RPS Klotz Associates was selected as a 2016 Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association Texas Chapter. Winning in the Environment category for projects under $2 million was RPS Klotz Associates’ use of GIS-based modeling to help the city more effectively and efficiently analyze its storm water network.

The third phase in the city’s infrastructure analytics tool, the project added Houston’s 675 square miles of roadside ditches to its stormwater planning analysis, which previously only covered enclosed storm sewers.

“This revolutionary project gives the city a comprehensive view into its stormwater facilities,” said D. Wayne Klotz, PE, D.WRE, president of RPS Klotz Associates. “The city can now make decisions on where to invest its time and dollars based on areas of greatest need and more cost-effectively plan for the long-term.”

The project was also awarded a 2016 ACEC Texas Engineering Excellence Gold Medal.
