R.A. Smith National opens Orange County, Calif., office

BROOKFIELD, WIS. – R.A. Smith National, a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm, headquartered in Brookfield, Wis., opened an Orange County (Los Angeles) office on May 2, 2011. The offices are located at 1965 North Main Street in the city of Orange.

Richard Smith, president, said, “The Western United States has continued to experience significant growth. We are excited about opening an Orange County office to better serve our western clients, as well as to take advantage of emerging opportunities as the economy rebounds. Orange County is in the greater Los Angeles area and is positioned well to serve populous southern California.”

Although R.A. Smith National serves both public and private sector clients, the Orange County office’s market emphasis is working with a variety of private-sector clients, including local and national developers, real estate professionals, architects, attorneys and corporations, among others. Services provided include site planning and entitlement, site feasibility studies, civil engineering, construction engineering, landscape architectural design and irrigation services.

R.A. Smith National has provided site engineering and related services for various projects in the Western United States. R.A. Smith National is currently working with Simon Property Group, developer, to provide site design, traffic engineering, landscape architectural design, irrigation design, permitting and construction coordination for the redevelopment of the south end of The Block at Orange shopping mall in Orange, Calif. Unique elements of the Block at Orange project include the innovative design of a rainwater collection and irrigation system and a new roundabout that will be part of The Block Way public street improvements. R.A. Smith National also recently provided site engineering to Macerich Company for the award-winning Santa Monica Place — a 550,000-square-foot, open-air entertainment and dining destination in Santa Monica, California.

In addition to site engineering, surveying and landscape architectural design services, R.A. Smith National’s western clients will benefit from additional services provided by the company’s Brookfield, Wis., operations, including transportation design, traffic engineering, laser scanning, 3D visualization, ecological services, water resource engineering, construction services and geographic information systems (GIS).
