POP-UP EVENT 8/9: More Sustainable Materials for Healthy Buildings

POP-UP EVENT 8/9: More Sustainable Materials for Healthy Buildings

On August 9, Dyer Brown is hosting an educational event at their Boston headquarters with partner group and co-host mindful MATERIALS. The gathering for building industry professionals promotes the adoption of better, more sustainable methods, materials and solutions in the worlds of design, construction and commercial real estate.
Led by architect Laurel Christensen, project manager and sustainable design leader with Dyer Brown and director of outreach and engagement with mindful MATERIALS, “Pop-up Materials: from Why to How” features exhibitors, guided networking, presentations from local sustainability leaders and an update from mindful MATERIALS CEO Annie Bevan, followed by a happy hour for informal socializing.
“As awareness of the impact of the built environment on climate change, human health, and ecosystem degradation continues to grow, more and more building industry professionals are motivated to prioritize sustainability in their work,” says Christensen. “The fact that over 170 architectural firms have signed on to the Architecture & Design Materials Pledge underscores our profession’s sincerity, but ambiguities around what makes a sustainable material create fractures in what might otherwise be a united industry effort.”
She adds, “Every potential changemaker has a reason why – the mindful MATERIALS pop-up session will help align on the how.”
According to Christensen, the August 9 gathering presents practicable information that designers can use right away, including new options for materials and ways to identify and evaluate materials that support a circular economy and positively impact human health, climate health, ecosystem health, social health and equity.
