Carmel, Ind. and Chicago, Ill. – In response to needs in the marketplace, the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) have issued a joint document to alleviate confusion regarding certification programs for precast and prestressed concrete products.
Both NPCA and PCI administer widely accepted, independent third-party-audited plant certification programs. Working together on these certifications programs has been a priority for the organizations since 2013 as part of a wider effort to align key programs, including their annual trade shows, marketing, government affairs, technical and safety materials, and education and training.
The document, Joint Concrete Products List (JCPL 11-19), will allow specifiers to easily determine whether products require NPCA certification, PCI certification or whether either is allowable. This clarification ensures the accurate specification of certification programs and ensures all appropriately certified plants are able to bid the project.
Together, NPCA and PCI represent nearly 1,500 manufacturers of quality precast and prestressed concrete products, suppliers to the industry, precast concrete erectors, and more than 3,500 individuals such as architects, consultants, contractors, developers, engineers, materials suppliers, service providers, educators, and students.
“Both of our organizations are committed to the specification, production, and installation of quality precast and prestressed concrete products, and we value this opportunity to provide additional clarification to the industry,” said NPCA President Ty Gable.
“Members from both organizations have worked together to provide more clarity to owners and specifiers as well as to our membership and the industry to ensure that precast and prestressed concrete products remain at the highest possible quality. The ultimate goal is customer satisfaction,” added Bob Risser, PE, President and CEO of PCI.
National Precast Concrete Association has represented manufacturers of plant-produced precast concrete products and the suppliers of products and services for the industry since 1965. NPCA is dedicated to expanding the use of quality precast concrete and providing members with the programs and information required to operate a successful precast plant. NPCA represents more than 900 manufacturers of quality precast concrete products and suppliers to the industry. NPCA has members in all 50 states, eight Canadian provinces and 11 other countries.
Founded in 1954, The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) is a technical institute for the precast concrete structures industry. PCI develops, maintains, and disseminates the information for designing, fabricating, and constructing precast structures. PCI provides technical resources, certification for companies and individuals, continuing education, as well as conducts research and development projects, conventions, conferences, awards programs, and much more. PCI members include precast concrete manufacturers, companies that provide products and services to the industry, precast concrete erectors, and individual members such as architects, consultants, contractors, developers, educators, engineers, materials suppliers, service providers, and students
