Nominate a project for a Beyond Green Award

Washington, D.C. —The National Institute of Building Sciences Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) issued a Call for Entries for its 2016 Beyond Green High-Performance Building and Community Awards, which recognize projects and activities that contribute to making high-performing, resilient buildings and communities.

According to SBIC, high-performance buildings meet eight design objectives: sustainability, accessibility, aesthetics, cost-effectiveness, functionality, productivity, historical sensitivity, and safety and security. (Resilience falls within the ‘safety and security’ objective.) The Beyond Green Awards distinguish those projects and activities that best exemplify the attributes of high performance.

Award categories include:

  • High-Performance Buildings;
  • High-Performance Attributes and Systems;
  • High-Performance Initiatives; and
  • Innovations for High-Performance Buildings and Communities.

Additionally, the Greg Franta Memorial Award recognizes an individual’s outstanding contributions to high-performance, sustainable building design and construction.

Once selected, the winners of the Beyond Green High-Performance Building & Community Awards will be invited to present their projects and receive their awards at a special Beyond Green Awards Luncheon, to be held during Building Innovation 2017: The National Institute of Building Sciences Fifth Annual Conference and Expo, the week of January 9-12, 2017, in Washington, D.C. The awards presentation gives winners an opportunity to share their project results directly with leaders across the building industry, highlighting the challenges and opportunities they faced while supporting delivery of high-performance buildings and communities.

Winning projects will be published as case studies on the WBDG Whole Building Design Guide website. Additional recognition will include an announcement in the Institute’s newsletter, a plaque and potential inclusion in future Institute technical guidelines and publications.

The deadline to apply for the 2016 Beyond Green Awards is Monday, October 31, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Visit the online submission website at beyondgreen.nibs.org
