FORT WORTH– The newly-built AC Hotel Fort Worth Downtown is becoming home to the city’s latest piece of iconic artwork. Pamplona Rose by Texas artist Julie Richey is being installed April 22 in the hotel’s ground floor entry at 101 West 5th Street,  near Sundance Square.

Inspired by the original stitch patterns and design of the Fort Worth Stockyards iconic M.L. Leddy Bootmakers, Richey’s Pamplona Rose mosaic sculpture blends a chromatic American western sunburst boot pattern into a pavement mosaic with a traditional Spanish Polainas chap mosaic column. The AC Hotel Fort Worth Downtown commissioned the piece with assistance from the Fort Worth Arts Council.

“Julie Richey created a stunning work that embraces the rich arts and culture scene of the surrounding community and alludes to Fort Worth’s Western heritage.,” said Joe Blewitt, Jackson-Shaw vice president and developer of the 252-room, 16-story AC Hotel Fort Worth Downtown. “Additionally, the distinctly contemporary feel of the sculpture aligns with the deep Spanish roots of AC Marriott Hotels and ‘the art of hospitality’ culture Jackson-Shaw strongly embraces in all its projects. The installation will be a great way to relate and offer a better experience to customers, associates and guests.”

Richey has been creating art and custom installations for more than 30 years. Her mosaics and sculptures have been exhibited across the United States and in Italy at the biennial Ravenna Mosaico festival and at the Orsoni Smalti Veneziani foundry in Venice as part of the Orsoni Grand Prize for mosaic in 2009. www.juliericheymosaics.com
