New York Honors Town of Dover as Climate Smart Community

WSP USA collaborated with Mid-Hudson community to create a comprehensive sustainability plan to guide adaption to climate change and resiliency activities.

DOVER, New York—The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) announced that the Town of Dover is among the communities certified as a Climate Smart Community (CSC).

WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy, assisted the Town of Dover to achieve bronze-level CSC certification with sustainability planning, which will guide town support for local climate adaptation and resiliency actions.

“We’re proud to support the Town of Dover and other NYSDEC Climate Smart Communities projects through our climate adaptation and sustainability work,” said Zachary Youngerman, WSP planning and resilience lead. “It’s been great to work with the Town of Dover and the Sustainable Dover Task Force — success comes from working together, taking sustainability best practices and tailoring them to the Town’s needs and vision.”

Seggo’s announcement was made as part of a weeklong celebration of Climate Week NYC 2020, which features over 350 events taking place across New York City and around the world that explore the lessons we can learn in the pursuit of a net-zero future through just transition.

Dover, located in the Mid-Hudson region of the state, was recognized for its efforts in creating a more climate aware community, which included the creation of the Dover Climate Smart Task Force, appointing a CSC coordinator, conducting a climate vulnerability assessment, initiating three natural habitat conservation efforts, and undertaking various public outreach and social media initiatives.

“Engaging community members in the process creates champions for implementing sustainable and climate smart strategies,” Youngerman said.
