New ASCE Manual of Practice 157 Sets Minimum Expectations for Safe and Effective Bridge Demolition

Reston, Va. –  ASCE’s new Manual of Practice, Bridge Demolition Engineering: Best Practices, MOP 157, provides consistent industry standards by setting minimum expectations for what should be included in a safe and effective demolition plan. This new MOP fills a knowledge gap by identifying design criteria and guidance applicable to the analysis of structures under demolition.

Topics include manuals and specifications for bridge demolition, equipment and tools for bridge demolition, loads, demolition with explosives, and suggested checklist of bridge demolition plans.

MOP 157 documents the current state of practice for demolition engineering, and is a valuable resource for engineers performing bridge demolition and those engineers reviewing bridge demolition analysis.
