National SMPS Marketing Communications Award honors Gannett Fleming

Harrisburg, Pa. — Gannett Fleming was honored in the Society for Marketing Professional Services’ 2014 Marketing Communications Awards for a coffee table booklet developed to celebrate the 2013 grand opening of the PHX Sky Train project. Gannett Fleming received the designation of third place in the book/monograph category.

SMPS presented the award at its national conference on July 31, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. This annual competition is the longest-standing awards program recognizing excellence in marketing and communications by firms in the architectural, engineering, and construction industries.

After more than a decade of planning, design, and construction, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport opened Stage 1 of the PHX Sky Train to customers on April 8, 2013. Gannett Fleming developed the booklet to showcase the PHX Sky Train project and highlight the firm’s involvement as fixed facilities designer of record in a unique and lasting format. More than 200 City of Phoenix officials, staff, dignitaries, and members of the media received the booklet during the PHX Sky Train grand opening event. Gannett Fleming’s Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based Corporate Communications & Marketing Section produced the award-winning piece in coordination with the firm’s Art Department. It was printed and bound in-house by GANCOM Reprographics.

The initial 1.92-mile-long PHX Sky Train segment includes three elevated passenger stations, and it links the Phoenix region’s 44th Street Valley Metro light rail station with the airport’s economy parking area and the 88-gate Terminal 4. The layout and operation of the system is designed to be intuitive and simple, creating a high level of service and convenience for passengers with facilities that are well integrated into the airport and the surrounding community.
