MIT project wins award

WALTHAM, MASS. — The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) recently recognized the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Grand Dome restoration project as a winner of the 2010 Aon Build America Award in the Construction Management Renovation category.

National engineering firm Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) contributed to the project’s success by designing waterproofing repairs that addressed the performance and constructability goals. The design approach made it possible for the team to successfully fix the Grand Dome’s ongoing leakage problems under a stringent and fast-tracked deadline.

According to the AGC Web site (www.agc.org), the Aon Build America Award honors members who build the nation’s most impressive construction projects ranging across the building, highway and transportation, municipal and utilities, and federal and heavy division.
