Michael Case to Lead WSP USA Energy Business

Energy business leader has been at the forefront of efforts to broaden firm’s expertise and help clients deliver clean, reliable, resilient power; succeeds retiring Roger Blair in leadership role.

NEW YORK, — Michael (Mike) Case has been named the executive business line leader for Energy at WSP USA, one of the nation’s largest engineering and professional services consultancies. 

Case, who joined WSP in 2005 and previously held the role of senior vice president, national markets director for power, assumed the role on July 18. 

“Mike has been a critical part of our energy leadership team since 2014, driving growth in the areas of power and thermal generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy, and energy management,” said Lou Cornell, president and chief executive officer of WSP USA. “His expertise and leadership will play a key role as we partner with our clients to deliver cleaner, more reliable and resilient energy to our communities across the country.”

Case succeeds Roger Blair, who will retire later this month.

“Roger has made innumerable contributions to our business and our clients over the past 41 years, leading our Energy team in planning and executing complex projects that have powered our communities, strengthened our energy security and grid resiliency, and advanced the energy transition,” Cornell said. “We are thankful for his vision, expertise and leadership these past several decades and wish him well in retirement.” 

In his previous role, Case was responsible for driving the power business’ growth across all end markets and geographies, overseeing the management of business and technical operations. He was instrumental in developing the 2022-2024 U.S. Energy Strategic Plan to help WSP partner on and lead the energy transition. Case was engineer of record for the central plant as well as the electrical distribution network for the LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Redevelopment. He oversaw the final closeout of the Avangrid Rochester Area Reliability Project Station 255, a 345/115kV substation located in Henrietta, New York and a 2022 New York American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) Engineering Excellence Award winner. Additionally, he was principal in charge of the York Correctional Central Plant and Chilled / Hot Water Replacement Project, a recent recipient of the Connecticut ACEC Engineering Excellence Award in Energy as well as the National Recognition Award. 

Case holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University. He is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states and a LEED AP. 

“Mike has led much of our recent work in broadening our services and expanding our expertise to secure WSP’s position as leaders in the energy transition,” Blair said. “I’m excited to see how he will leverage that experience to help our clients prepare for a Net Zero future.”
