McKim & Creed acquires Texas surveying company

RALEIGH, N.C. — McKim & Creed Inc., an engineering, geomatics (surveying) and planning firm with offices throughout the South, acquired a 31-person AECOM survey operation based in Texas, formerly known as SURVCON. The Texas group will operate under the name SURVCON, a Division of McKim & Creed.

SURVCON’s operations were established in Houston during 1974 and the group provides surveying and aerial mapping services from offices in Houston, Austin, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Georgetown, Texas.

The acquisition significantly expands McKim & Creed’s geographic presence in the southern United States, bringing the company to nearly 350 employees and 50 survey crews in 18 locations throughout North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Texas. In addition to conventional surveying and mapping services, the company offers remote sensing services that include mobile and airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and aerial photography, as well as hydrographic surveying and subsurface utility engineering services (SUE).

“This acquisition leverages SURVCON’s solid experience and longstanding client relationships with the innovative geomatics technologies McKim & Creed offers,” said Herbert P. McKim, Jr., PE, PLS, McKim & Creed president and chief operating officer. “Expanding into Texas is part of McKim & Creed’s long-term strategic plan, and combining our extensive experience in the natural gas, energy and power industries with SURVCON’s niche services and established presence is a natural fit and an excellent entry into the state.”

SURVCON Regional Manager Jay Canine, RPLS, will oversee geomatics operations in Texas. Julie McDonald, PE, PLS, a senior geomatics project manager with McKim & Creed’s Charlotte, N.C., office, will transfer to Houston to assist with integration and business development.

“We’re excited about joining with the McKim & Creed team,” said Canine. “As SURVCON, a Division of McKim & Creed, we now have a greater depth of resources, multiple offices, additional field crews and project managers, and state-of-the-art equipment to benefit our clients and better meet their needs. We’re excited about the McKim & Creed future.”
