McCarthy Completes the Student Union at Hubbard Hall at Texas Woman’s University

DALLAS –– McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., recently completed a renovation and expansion project at Texas Woman’s University (TWU) in Denton. Renovations for the university’s Student Union at Hubbard Hall were phased and portions of the building remained occupied during construction. McCarthy began the project in March 2018 and completed it January 2020.

The Student Union at Hubbard Hall, which once served as the university’s dining hall and  a conference facility and reception hall, will now serve as the university’s student union with features that include SGA chambers, student organization suite, art gallery, ballrooms, retail dining and over twenty meeting rooms. The building underwent approximately 100,754 square feet of renovations and 23,920 square feet of additions were also made to the structure.

Redbud Theater, also housed in the building, received a fire sprinkler system and was in operation throughout construction. In addition to interior and exterior renovations and the new structure, the project included interior finish-out including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, AV, security, kitchen services and low voltage systems. The project also included landscape, irrigation and site utilities.

“We are proud of our partnership with TWU and of our work in renovating an important building on campus that is ready to meet student and faculty needs now and into the future,” said McCarthy’s senior vice president, Nate Kowallis.

McCarthy previously completed construction of TWU’s Oakland Complex, a parking garage and an adjoining office building that houses campus police headquarters, human resources administrative spaces, a testing center, a retail food service vendor and outdoor patio space.
