HOUSTON  — Jared Machala has been promoted to managing director of property and buildings in the Houston office at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.

Machala, a vice president, has been a design engineer and project manager since joining the firm 17 years ago. He is a science and technology facility expert, with extensive experience in biocontainment laboratories at universities, government institutions and private sector entities. In his new role, he will be responsible for the management, growth and development of the firm’s Houston office, as well as performance of WSP’s projects in the region.

He has designed numerous science and technology facilities throughout his career at WSP, including BSL-3, ABSL-3 and BSL-4 bio-containment facilities, clinical laboratories, research laboratories, petrochemical laboratories, clean rooms, cGMP facilities, radiochemistry laboratories and proton beam therapy centers.

His projects have included multiple laboratory and research facilities at Texas A&M University and the University of Texas; the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan, Kansas; projects for the Texas Biomedical Research Institute; and proton beam therapy centers for international projects in Saudi Arabia and England.

“Jared’s understanding of these complex projects, together with his ability to organize his teams and convey critical information to them to achieve success for our clients, has been consistent and impressive,” said Doug Calhoun, senior vice president and regional manager for buildings. “We are confident that his leadership will have a profound impact on all of the buildings projects in our region. Jared’s promotion is reflective of WSP’s commitment to promote from within, and provide increased, expanded leadership opportunities to our dedicated professional staff.”
