(LANSING, Mich. – March 24, 2021) Planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) has promoted Samir F. Matta, P.E., to vice president.
Matta, who joined LAN in 2013, has 33 years of experience as a project manager and design engineer. Currently, he leads the firm’s municipal practice group and manages teams in Lansing, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, and Corpus Christi. Previously, he served the firm as a team leader overseeing the firm’s municipal infrastructure projects in Michigan.
“Samir’s leadership and technical expertise has helped us expand our municipal practice throughout the country,” said Steve Gilbreath, P.E., vice president and director of the firm’s infrastructure business group. “His strong focus on quality design and staff utilization has been instrumental in providing better service to our clients.”
During his career, Matta has managed public works projects for municipal, county and federal agencies such as the Cities of Lansing and Battle Creek, Ingham, Genesee and Shiawassee County Drain Commissioners’ offices, the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, United States Property and Fiscal Office, and the Corps of Engineers. He has extensive experience in watershed management, low-impact development design, drainage improvements, combined sewer overflow, sewer rehabilitation, roads and streetscape improvements, water distribution and treatment, and environmental cleanup projects.
Some of his notable projects include the 66-inch raw water transmission main in Genesee County, Mich., water supply and pump station improvements in Saginaw, Mich., multiple drainage projects in Ingham County, Mich., LaVolla Creek in Corpus Christi, Texas, Purgatory Creek in San Marcos, Texas, as well as numerous San Antonio Water System projects in central Texas.
Matta holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Wayne State University, Mich. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Water Works Association and Water Environment Federation. He also represents the firm as an associate member with the Michigan Association of County Drain Commissioners. He is a registered professional engineer in Michigan, Indiana and North Carolina and is in the process of obtaining his professional engineer license in Texas.
