LAN Appoints Four Employees as Associates

(HOUSTON) Planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) has appointed four employees – Mathew Busby, Clement Medina, Ruba Shaikh, and Philip Wheat – as associates.

A project manager at LAN, Busby, P.E., has 13 years of experience developing solutions for municipal clients. He has designed projects ranging from utility relocations and pipelines to pump stations and treatment plants. Since joining LAN in 2018, Busby has helped grow the firm’s municipal revenue in the Dallas market by more than a million dollars a year. Some of the notable projects he has managed include the City of Tyler sanitary sewer rehabilitation, City of Dallas Montfort Road improvements, and City of Plano Jasmine Lane Street replacement. In addition, Busby is also a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, alumni of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) Leadership Institute, and a leader in his local TSPE Dallas chapter. For his technical ability, professional achievements, and civic and humanitarian activities, TSPE Dallas Chapter named him 2019 Young Engineer of the Year.

Medina, AIA, serves as a program manager at LAN. He has 15 years of experience designing and managing capital improvement, higher education, K-12, hospitality and residential projects. Since joining LAN five years ago, Medina has managed several high-profile projects for various educational facilities. These include $267 million and $335 million bond programs for Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, numerous projects for Sheldon Independent School District’s $285 million bond program, as well as campus renovation projects for Aldine Independent School District.

Shaikh, who has 12 years of graphic design experience, serves as LAN’s creative services manager. Since joining the firm in 2013, she has been integral in developing, updating, and maintaining the look and feel of the LAN brand. Her creative expertise has positioned the firm as a reliable, professional partner to its clients. She has designed robust InDesign templates and graphic libraries that have significantly improved the quality of LAN’s marketing collateral and streamlined the development of the firm’s proposals. In addition, she has improved the quality of LAN’s photography and brought high-quality video to the firm.

Wheat, P.E., serves as a senior project manager at LAN. He has 14 years of civil engineering experience. Since he joined LAN in 2018, Wheat has enhanced the firm’s depth and expertise in the design of large-diameter sanitary sewer pipelines and pipeline rehabilitation. Over the last three years, he has managed several high-profile projects, including Trinity River Authority’s 90-inch sanitary sewer improvements, North Texas Municipal Water District’s 42-inch parallel force main and City of Frisco’s 20-inch Legacy North force main. In addition, Wheat opened LAN’s Frisco office, increase the firm’s presence in Collin County, and helped build its reputation in the North Texas region.
