ISI announces new staff members

Washington, D.C. — The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) added two new staff members. Vice President for Public Education Denise Nelson, P.E., LEED AP, ENV SP, is responsible for training and education for both public and private sector organizations, marketing, and overall coordination of messaging and promotions. Administrative Professional India Bell, who is previously from Howard University’s IT Department in Washington, D.C., is responsible for computer technology and software development in support of growth of ISI.

The ISI is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to changing the way infrastructure in the U.S. is designed, built, and operated through continued development of the Envision sustainable infrastructure rating system — a planning and design tool that guides the building of infrastructure, while creating public confidence in the process of civil infrastructure development.

“On behalf of the ISI Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the addition of both Vice President Denise Nelson, P.E., with a concentrated career of over 12 years of engineering experience related to public utilities and sustainable development, and India Bell, who brings IT experience in various applications to the ISI and the Envision sustainable infrastructure rating system,” said ISI President and CEO, Bill Bertera. “They both will contribute their individual expertise to ISI and the Envision rating system, which are about the wisdom of our thinking when we make decisions about infrastructure as we plan, design, construct, operate and maintain it,” Bertera said.

Nelson is a civil engineer with diverse experience who has used the Envision rating system extensively in projects for a wide variety of jurisdictions. As a consulting engineer, she worked for Metcalf & Eddy and Maunsell (both now AECOM), and Greely and Hansen. Her bachelor’s degree is in civil engineering from Virginia Tech, and her master of science degree is in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati. She is a registered P.E. in Virginia and Ohio.

Bell is an accomplished administrative professional, who spent 11 years working at Howard University in numerous departments on campus, including Admissions, Enrollment Management, General Accounting, and Telecommunications. She holds a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Howard University.
