ICC-ES ensures acceptance criteria complies with 2012 I-Codes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) is updating its acceptance criteria to reflect revisions to the 2012 International Codes. This effort will allow customers to promptly update existing evaluation reports with the most current technical data. ICC-ES evaluation reports updated to the 2012 I-Codes let code officials, designers, architects, engineers and others in the building industry know they can feel confident about approving or specifying products based on the most current information.

“Building officials look for the ICC-ES mark on building products because they trust our work and recognize the credibility of our evaluation reports,” said ICC-ES President Shahin Moinian. “Manufacturers can rely on a quick turnaround time when requesting these updates, which enhances market acceptance.”

The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee, which holds public hearings three times per year, will meet Oct.1–3, to consider additional new and revised acceptance criteria. Some of the major product areas already updated include ICC-ES acceptance criteria ranging from AC04 (Acceptance Criteria for Sandwich Panels) and AC179 (Acceptance Criteria for Metallic HVAC Duct Enclosure Assemblies) to AC358 (Acceptance Criteria for Helical Pile Systems and Devices) and AC429 (Acceptance Criteria for High-Strength Reinforcing Bars), water-resistive barriers, thermal insulation and modifications to Appendix D of ACI 318.

In addition to building product codes changing, PMG product code requirements underwent significant changes as well. The 2012 International Plumbing Code (IPC) states that all plumbing products and materials are now required to be listed by a third-party certification agency. The ICC-ES PMG Listing Program offers a full range of certification activities for both U.S. and Canadian regions. ICC-ES PMG certifies products to AB1953, Annex G of NSF/ANSI 61, S.3874 (Federal Law for Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water) and the requirements of WaterSense at no additional cost to a listing.
