Horner & Shifrin develops repair plans for Maritz Overpass

St. Louis — Horner & Shifrin (H&S) developed plans for repairing the Maritz Overpass on Interstate 44 for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). In June, the bridge was struck by an over-height commercial vehicle, severely damaging two of its steel plate girders and causing slight damage to four more.

The collision affected 25 feet of the bridge over westbound I-44 lanes and completely shut down the northbound lane on Maritz Road.

H&S received the project through its on-call contract with the MoDOT Bridge Division. Plans include heat-straightening and strengthening the girders where needed and completely repainting the bridge. Construction work is set to begin on Oct. 1 and the bridge will be re-opened to traffic by the end of November. Painting will be completed by June, 2015.
