Heery leads design-build team for Cotton Bowl renovation

DALLAS, Texas – The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department has selected Heery International to perform a $24.2 million design-build renovation of the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium in Fair Park.

Highlights of the project include installation of new club seating and club lounges, renovations to the original concourses and press box, and installation of a new stadium façade at the end zones.

Heery, as the lead of the design-build team, will be responsible for design and program management. Balfour Beatty Construction will perform construction. Both companies are part of London-based Balfour Beatty, a global leader in professional services, construction services, support services, and infrastructure investment.

Project design began in June with construction scheduled to commence in January 2013. Completion is slated for late summer 2013, prior to the start of the State Fair of Texas.

Heery is no stranger to the Cotton Bowl. The firm led a $58 million design-build expansion and renovation of the stadium, completed in 2008, that added 16,000 seats, new concessions and restrooms. Construction of that project was performed by Charter Builders, then a Heery subsidiary and now part of Balfour Beatty Construction.

“Drawing on the resources of the Balfour Beatty family, we’re pleased to be able to reassemble the team that delivered the previous award-winning renovation,” said Heery’s Rob Chomiak, who will serve as Project Director and also led the Heery design-build team on the work completed in 2008. “Our goal is to provide an in-house integrated project team that will ensure that the City’s project goals are met and that the Cotton Bowl will continue to provide a great fan experience for football and other events.”
