HDR’s Will Sharp to Serve on National Institute of Building Sciences’ BIM Steering Committee

OMAHA, Neb. — HDR’s Highways Director Will Sharp is one of 13 industry leaders chosen to serve on the National Institute of Building Sciences’ new National BIM Program Steering Committee. The goal of the National BIM Program is to help set digital design and construction standards in the United States on a national scale that will create more efficiency, improved projects and more predictable processes.

As a part of this committee, Sharp will be providing technical input as it relates to horizontal infrastructure. He is an expert in Building Information Modeling, having been working with 3D modeling since the late ‘80s. More recently, he’s concentrated on national efforts to streamline the adoption of BIM for Infrastructure, including work with AASHTO, ACEC, ARTBA, buildingSMART, and the Transportation Research Board’s BIM for Infrastructure Subcommittee to promote open data standards and digital delivery.

In addition, Sharp brings three decades of experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering and highway design. He works with HDR staff across the United States, Canada and Australia, and has extensive expertise in the concept development and design of roadway projects, ranging from rural highways to major urban freeways.

In his new NIBS BIM Steering committee role, he will work closely with a diverse group of leaders representing the horizontal and vertical design and construction industry, including Federal and State Agencies, technology companies, and consultants. The NBIS BIM Steering Committee’s first task is developing the launch plan for the initial three to five years of the U.S. National BIM Program.
