Hatch targets smart growth in infrastructure market

Mississauga, Ontario — Hatch is strengthening its global infrastructure business, following the announcement that Hatch Mott MacDonald’s (HMM) Canadian operation will be fully integrated with the company. HMM’s Canadian operation will add nearly 1,000 new engineers and infrastructure professionals to Hatch’s Canadian and U.S. offices. Hatch CEO John Bianchini welcomed the opportunity for Hatch to unlock new opportunities in infrastructure development and renewal currently underway throughout North America, while leveraging Hatch’s unique global brand of differentiated service offerings.

“Globally, there is a huge need for infrastructure that is smarter, greener, more efficient and integrated, to serve the needs of communities,” says Bianchini. “HMM’s team of experts have delivered some of Canada’s most exciting and innovative public and private infrastructure projects. By adding these capabilities to our existing expertise, we can leverage our strengths and provide the innovative engineering solutions that our clients need today.”

Hatch Board Director Martin Doble will remain global lead for Hatch Infrastructure. Managing Director Michael Schatz will lead the infrastructure business for North America.

“Hatch is committed to smarter urbanization and supply chains,” says Doble. “We look forward to working with our client partners to develop more sustainable and resilient cities, connected for global trade. Through innovative ideas, technologies and approaches, we can build smart infrastructure that contributes to economic growth and improves quality of life.”

“Our engineering and consulting practice is extremely strong across Canada and this transition will allow us to foster even closer connections with our colleagues within Hatch across the globe, particularly with our global infrastructure business,” says Schatz. “This will give us more depth and resources to support our clients and to help ensure that our current and growing scale of projects are delivered seamlessly during this transition period.”

Hatch and Hatch Mott MacDonald have been involved in many large, award winning public and industrial infrastructure projects. Currently, they are providing Metrolinx with leading design and management services for the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Toronto and the City of Calgary’s Green Line LRT. Hatch has been an infrastructure partner of the Toronto Transit Commission since the 1950’s, providing tunnelling services throughout the City’s subway system and, earlier this year,  was contracted for the program management and tunnel design of the new Scarborough subway in Toronto. Recently completed projects include the Herb Gray Parkway in Windsor and the Port Mann Highway 1 project in Vancouver.

Final arrangements are expected to be completed by early 2016.
