GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. acquires New England Bioassay, Inc.

MANCHESTER AND BLOOMFIELD, CONN. AND NORWOOD, MASS. — GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc., an environmental and geotechnical consulting firm, has announced the acquisition of the assets of New England Bioassay Inc. in a transaction which is expected to create the largest specialty testing laboratory of its kind in New England.

New England Bioassay Inc. (NEB) is a high quality toxicological testing laboratory which was founded 25 years ago in response to the need for precise aquatic and terrestrial testing, respirometry testing, and related consulting services. The NEB laboratory provides services to hundreds of industrial facilities, power plants, municipalities, and environmental consultants throughout the Northeast.

The laboratory division of GZA has offered similar testing services from a facility in Bloomfield, Conn. With this transaction, the entire staff of GZA will relocate to the NEB facility in Manchester, Conn., and all testing and related services will be provided from the common location going forward. John D. Cooney, Ph.D., president and laboratory director of NEB, will serve as a consultant to GZA on a range of issues on an interim basis. The expanded laboratory will operate under the name of “New England BioAssay, a division of GZA GeoEnvironmental.”

“For many years New England Bioassay has been known as the standard for high quality acute and chronic toxicological testing services which meet the regulatory requirements of their clients. The combination of GZA’s capabilities into NEB’s will provide the clients of both organizations with expanded capabilities and resources,” said William R. Beloff, president and CEO of GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. “We are pleased to welcome the highly qualified staff of scientists and skilled technicians to our GZA team.”
