FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The ACI Foundation is pleased to present a "Tribute to the Fellowship Founders," a gala dinner event to acknowledge and thank the founders of the ACI Foundation’s Student Fellowship Program and all who have generously helped fund the ACI Foundation’s scholarships and fellowships.

The Tribute to the Fellowship Founders Dinner, which will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, NV, during the ACI spring convention, will salute Dan Baker of Baker Concrete Construction, Jim and Sharon Cagley of Cagley & Associates, and Tom Verti of Pankow and the Charles Pankow Foundation, along with many other donors who generously gave resources to endow the program. ACI Past President Kenneth Hover will serve as the evening’s master of ceremonies.

“I am honored to have been a part of the Fellowship Program since its inception and I look forward to recognizing and thanking the donors by celebrating the Fellowship Program at the dinner in Reno,” said Debby Orsak, FACI, Chair of the ACI Foundation Scholarship Council. “ACI Past President Dan Baker established the Student Fellowship Program in 2000, with the first three fellowships being awarded for the 2001-2002 school year. In 2006, ACI Past Presidents Jim Cagley and Tom Verti joined the campaign to help achieve Dan’s vision of helping ACI attract ‘the best and brightest’ students into the concrete field, while making corporate contributions to education more meaningful,” she continued.

ACI Foundation Fellowships and Scholarships are promoted globally through the ACI Faculty Network. For the 2013-2014 academic year, 12 awards were presented, totaling $60,000. In the last 10 years, $562,000 has been distributed to 108 students. In addition to generous stipends to cover tuition and educational expenses, many of the Fellowship recipients are provided an industry mentor and travel/expenses so they can participate in two ACI conventions. To date 56 Fellowships have been awarded to outstanding students, the majority who have gone on to work in the concrete industry as engineers, professors, researchers and Presidents/CEOs of their own firms.
