Fuss & O’Neill wins CREW Award for historic mixed-use project

Manchester, Conn. — Fuss & O’Neill won two CREW CT Blue Ribbon Awards for its work at the Mill at Hop Brook development in Simsbury, Conn. The creative mixed-use design and planning of the site combined the restoration of an historic grist mill building that dates back to the 1680s into an award-winning restaurant with 10,000 square feet of commercial space. The residential components of the site include a community center, a central village green, 88 apartments and 20 privately owned luxury townhomes.

The development also features numerous environmentally-friendly features, including 6 acres of green space for the use of residents and rain gardens that are both ornamental and functional. The CREW CT Awards are held annually to recognize and honor excellence in real estate accomplishments in Connecticut.

The Mill at Hop Brook earned the Best Specialty – Mixed Use Blue Ribbon Award for its creative integration of residential and commercial development, along with the restoration of the historic grist mill and its incorporation into the site. The award also recognized the project’s sustainable design elements and promotion of “green living.”

The People’s Choice Award was bestowed through a vote of real estate and design professionals attending the awards banquet. The Mill at Hop Brook was one of two projects to earn the People’s Choice Award, which recognizes the best of those projects to earn the honor of CREW CT awards.
