Wading River, NY

Evergreen Forest Products, Inc., a leading direct importer and supplier of premium, sustainable hardwoods, including environmentally-friendly marine lumber and dock piles, decking and shingles, announced that it supplied Greenheart sustainable lumber for a roadway infrastructure project located in Saltaire, Fire Island, NY and constructed by Chesterfield Associates, Inc.(Westhampton Beach, NY and Westport, ME), a marine construction and engineering firm. The Greenheart lumber provided by Evergreen was used for the understructure of the roadway and roadway surfaces. The roadway repairs were necessary to address damage sustained during Super Storm Sandy.

According to Evergreen Chief Executive Officer Charles Zimmerman, “Greenheart Wood offers a much stronger and durable alternative to the Pine and Douglas Fir wood it replaced on the Saltaire roadway project. Greenheart Wood, which is sustainably harvested from Guyana, is pest and marine borer resistant and virtually immune to rot. It also has the added advantage of being highly resistant to fire which has earned it a Class A Fire Rating.”

Evergreen provided over 100 truckloads of the Greenheart lumber for the Saltaire roadway project. Greenheart Wood has been widely used for waterfront projects across the world. Among other notable projects in the New York Metropolitan area where the lumber has been applied are the Fire Island boardwalks, Chelsea Piers and Staten Island Ferry Terminal.

About Evergreen Forest Products, Inc.

Evergreen Forest Products, Inc. has been supplying building materials to municipalities, architects, engineers and builders for over two decades. After recognizing the problems created by  pressure-treated lumber’s leaking of chemicals into oceans and waterways, and roof shingles creating runoff that was seeping into drinking water tables, Evergreen sought a better alternative in premium sustainable hardwoods. Since that time, the company has been a “go-to” resource for equally eco-conscious entities that recognize the importance in reducing their projects’ carbon footprints as an investment in protecting our environment and its natural resources. In addition to Greenheart Wood, Evergreen provides Wallaba Roof Shingles and other sustainable wood products. Many of the company’s products are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C117772) Certified. FSC® Certified woods are harvested from forests that are responsibly managed from an environmental, social and economic standpoint.
