EPS Group assists town after severe thunderstorm

EPS Group, Inc., a locally owned Arizona civil engineering firm, was asked by the Town of Wickenburg to help after a severe storm dumped about four inches of rain over the area within less than an hour Saturday, July 18. The Town called EPS to assess the damage to Constellation Road and assist with a plan for an interim fix to allow the road to be fully reopened.

While several areas were affected, the Constellation Road / Powder House Wash area was hit the hardest. Houses were flooded and at least one house received major structural damage. The wash inundated the area with three to four feet of water within some of the houses and deposited several feet of sand throughout the neighborhood including Constellation Road. About 1,000 feet of the road was undermined with pavement destroyed and a waterline completely washed out with half of the road being unsafe for travel.

"We feel very sorry for the residents of Wickenburg whose homes were affected by the storm," said Woodrow Scoutten, EPS' West Valley Office Department Manager. "Town personnel are to be congratulated for their prompt response and their ability to quickly find resources to begin the clean-up and repairs."

EPS is the Contract Town Engineering firm for Wickenburg. Scoutten and Brandon Squire, who work in EPS'sGoodyear office, attended an emergency services meeting on Monday, July 20 with representatives of the Town, Flood Control District of Maricopa County, American Red Cross, Arizona Department of Emergency & Military Affairs, and Maricopa County Department of Transportation to receive an update from the Town Emergency Manager and provide outreach to residents and homeowners who suffered damage and loss.
