DPS Group Opens Cary, North Carolina Office to Serve Research Triangle Life Sciences Clients

BOSTON – DPS Group, a privately-owned, global engineering, procurement, construction management and validation (EPCMV) firm serving high-tech process industries, is pleased to announce the opening of a new project office in Cary, North Carolina. With an expert team of multi-disciplinary professionals led by Robert Garner, senior vice president of project operations, DPS Group’s Cary office is poised to serve the needs of clients in Raleigh’s booming Research Triangle Park region by delivering highly specialized design and project execution capability for large-scale biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

The DPS Group Cary office offers an experienced team with the critical disciplines needed to meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) in the design and construction of clinical and licensed manufacturing facilities in Research Triangle Park and beyond. DPS Group has had a presence in North Carolina since 2013, and this expansion demonstrates the firm’s commitment to the region.

Robert brings more than 30 years of professional experience in engineering, facility operations, construction, and project management to his role at DPS Group. As senior vice president of project operations for the firm’s new Cary, North Carolina office, Robert works closely with a dedicated team of engineers, architects, and construction professionals to deliver successful projects for clients. His extensive engineering experience includes process engineering, controls, automation, validation and qualification, manufacturing operations, and engineering management. In addition to his engineering background, Robert also has 15 years of project management experience working from both the owner and consultant perspectives for projects ranging from small capital projects to $100 million greenfield expansions. With experience working within the U.S. and across Europe and Asia, Robert’s expertise spans the life sciences, food and beverage, and chemical industries.

Ben is a seasoned business development and sales professional with more than 25 years of experience in the AEC industry. He brings extensive knowledge of the Southeastern U.S. and Research Triangle Park marketplace within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, supporting clients in their quest to deliver meaningful research and development and scale-up manufacturing processes. Ben has a demonstrated history of technical problem-solving and client responsiveness, providing value to clients who place trust in him to deliver solutions that meet their needs. His accomplishments also include process and project optimizations for many manufacturing sites throughout the Southeast.

Leigh J. Formanek, PMP, CCP, CM-Lean – Director of Project Services, U.S. Lean Leader

With more than 20 years of engineering and construction experience, Leigh is recognized in the biotech, pharmaceutical, power and manufacturing industries as a dedicated leader and problem-solver in project controls and project management. His experience includes working for Fortune 500 companies as an owner, self-perform contractor, engineering and construction management on programs and projects ranging from $5,000 to over $1 billion. Leigh is an avid supporter and participant in Lean and LCI programs in the U.S., and is a designated Lean leader in the DPS Cary office. His expertise and experience in leading DPS pre-construction and project controls services (procurement, estimating, cost engineering, scheduling, earned value, and risk management) provide specialized value to his clients.

Matt Bolin, PE, LEED AP BD+CDirector of Project Management

With more than 18 years of experience in the industry, Matt has developed a diverse skill set in engineering design, construction, and project management. As a design professional and team leader, he consistently displays a solution-oriented attitude that has been fundamental to his success as a project manager. Matt strives to exceed client expectations through focused attention to detail, active collaboration, and continued technical growth. A professional engineer, Matt possesses a strong foundation in structural design and construction administration, and drawing from that technical base, he has naturally transitioned into positions of increasing responsibility. His passion for problem-solving and effective collaboration enable his success as a client-focused project manager.

John F. Dorr, PE, LEED AP  Director of Engineering

John brings to DPS more than 35 years of engineering, design, and construction experience and a diverse skill set in the planning, design, and full project execution for commercial, pharmaceutical and institutional projects. In his role, John coordinates the development and utilization of standard design and checking guidelines and assures that a project’s quality, budget, and schedule criteria are met. He performs peer reviews to ensure that project documents are coordinated and compliant with local, state and national codes.

Jeff Lewis, PE  Manager of Process Engineering

Jeff is a registered chemical engineer with 16 years of experience leading and providing process engineering, procurement and construction support for pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing facilities. He has extensive experience in medical device, oral solid dosage, bioprocessing, and aseptic fill finish capital projects. Jeff has been the lead technical resource on projects of up to $50 million in total installed cost (TIC), and has been a key member of the process leadership team on projects up to $200 million TIC. His experience includes facility master planning, equipment arrangement/plant layout, pharmaceutical equipment selection and specification, PFD and P&ID development, and piping design. Jeff is highly skilled in process calculations, process simulation, and determining piping system hydraulics.
