CTLGroup Announces New Hires to Complement Growing Industry Needs in Structures and Building Materials

CTLGroup, an internationally recognized engineering, architecture, and materials science consulting firm, announced today that three key individuals have joined the firm to grow CTLGroup’s service offerings and enhance its core capabilities.

David Corr, Ph.D., P.E. has joined CTLGroup as Principal Engineer and Group Director of the firm’s Materials Consulting practice. As one of the nation’s leading experts related to structural performance and the materials science of porous infrastructure materials, he has studied the durability of concrete and timber, the rheology and fresh-state behavior of concrete, and fracture and cracking in cement-based materials. Dr. Corr will oversee CTLGroup’s Materials Consulting group and will be responsible for growing the firm’s capabilities in emerging materials.

Prior to joining CTLGroup, Dr. Corr was Clinical Professor and the Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University. His most current research focuses on nanotechnology of cement-based materials, and large-scale additive manufacturing (3D printing). Dr. Corr’s professional practice has also included structural health monitoring, structural diagnostics, data analysis of structural performance, failure analysis and forensic engineering.

He earned a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

He is a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), a past Chair of the Cements Division of the American Ceramic Society and is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois. He is based in CTLGroup’s Skokie, Ill. office.

Marcello Tronci, P.E. has joined the organization as a Senior Structural Engineer. Tronci has extensive experience in structural engineering design in the U.S. and Italy. His expertise includes performing feasibility studies, risk analysis and investigations in connection with the repair and rehabilitation of buildings and structures, and new construction consulting. Tronci brings local structural engineering expertise to CTLGroup’s New York City presence and will help grow relationships with a variety of clients.

He earned his professional license in Italy where he practiced for several years focusing on integrated design of modular building systems for commercial, industrial, and residential use. He is a licensed professional engineer in New York and Italy and is based out of the firm’s New York City office.

David Waratuke, S.E. joined CTLGroup as a Senior Structural Engineer and has broad engineering experience on a national and global scale. With nearly 30 years’ experience, Waratuke’s work is diversified and spans forensic investigations, building renovation and repair, construction engineering support, high rise structures, convention centers, sports facilities, aviation facilities, residential structures, and unique projects including the glass observation boxes at Willis Tower. He is adept at developing creative solutions for clients and will help grow CTLGroup’s structural practice.

Waratuke is a licensed structural engineer in Illinois and earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is based in CTLGroup’s Skokie, Ill. office.

“CTLGroup has a diverse set of clients, and we’re seeing clients embrace initiatives like sustainability and new product development. Challenges like increasing natural disasters and ageing, deteriorated infrastructure are also taking precedence. David, Marcello, and David are all accomplished experts in their fields. I know each of them will contribute to our growth and help tackle important issues in structures and materials,” said CTLGroup President Dennis McCann, Ph.D., P.E.
