COVID-19 and the AEC Industry: Conference Updates

The last few weeks have brought unprecedented changes to the AEC industry.  As firms continue to make changes to their travel plans as a measure to ensure the safety of their employees and clients, a number of important industry conferences and events have been cancelled, postponed, or changed format.

As a trusted source of news for so many in the AEC industry, we want to keep you updated as to what is going on in terms of these events and conferences.  Below you will find a list of AEC industry events that have made the decision to amend their original plans.  We will update the list as changed events are reported.

American Water Works Association: ACE20

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has decided to cancel their June event.  Be sure to visit their website for more developments.

Advanced Design Topics in Wood Construction Engineering

Virginia Tech has rescheduled their short course to the later date of August 18th & 19th, 2020.  For more information, please visit the event website.

NASCC: The Steel Conference

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has announced that their 2020 conference is cancelled.  All participation fees will be refunded, and the AISC is working to deliver some of the conference’s content in a digital format.  Please visit https://www.aisc.org/nascc for more information.

Ground Engineering Awards

The Ground Engineering Events team has decided to postpone their conference until November 4, 2020.  General questions can be answered here.  More specific questions should be direct to GEawards@geoplus.co.uk

News Conference on the Release of the 2020 Report Card for Maryland’s Infrastructure

The Maryland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers will reveal their infrastructure report card via a virtual broadcast.  Those who with to view it should visit: https://asce.adobeconnect.com/marylandreportcard2020/

AIA Conference on Architecture

The AIA has announced that they will be postponing this Los Angeles conference.  Refunds will be issued automatically.  There is no reschedule date announced yet.  Questions should be sent to register@conferenceonarchitecture.com.

NCSPA Annual Meeting

The National Corrugated Steel Pipe Association has cancelled their annual meeting that was to be held April 3-7.  While the meeting is cancelled, the NCSPA will continue the Project of the Year Competition.

Plastic Pipes Annual Meeting

The Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI) announced that its annual membership meeting scheduled for May in Hawaii has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Sessions that would have taken place during that meeting are now planned to be conducted virtually with a full schedule to be published in April.
