Comment sought for revised engineered wood standard

RESTON, Va.—The Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE/SEI) will conduct a public comment period on revisions to its standard for Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) for Engineered Wood Construction (ASCE/SEI 16). The standard provides design criteria for structures constructed of structurally graded lumber, structural glued laminated timber, panel products, poles, piles and other structural wood components, and their connections.
The revised sections of the standard being released for public comment are the following:
general provision;
design requirements;
compression members and bearing;
flexural members bending and shear;
members with combined bending and axial loads;
mechanical connections;
shear walls; and
diaphragms.

To participate in the public comment period, which runs from July 15, 2007, to Aug. 29, 2007, contact Phillip Mariscal, ASCE standards administrator, at pmariscal@asce.org or 703-295-6338.
