Clark Dietz wins ACEC state awards

Champaign, Ill. and Kenosha, Wis. — Clark Dietz was awarded an ACEC-IL Engineering Excellence Merit Award for the Pennsylvania Avenue Roundabout and Realignment project and two Engineering Excellence Awards from American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Wisconsin.

The Pennsylvania Avenue reconstruction and realignment introduced the first roundabout to the City of Peoria. The roundabout replaced a congested intersection at Glen Oak Avenue, Wayne Street and Armstrong Avenue, providing a direct connection to Pennsylvania Avenue, a main thoroughfare in the community. The new roundabout has improved traffic flow and safety for those who traverse it daily.

The improvements also had a positive impact on the adjacent neighborhoods. The inclusion of a separated storm sewer system and modifications to the sanitary sewer network accommodate future expansion of the OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Pedestrians have clearly marked crossings, all new sidewalks provide handicap access, and the new ornamental lighting adds a measure of safety for both pedestrians and motorists at night. Reduced traffic delays have also decreased traffic cut-through on nearby neighborhood streets and improved air quality. 

In Wisconsin, a State Finalist award was earned in the Energy category for the design of process and equipment upgrades that, combined, save the Village of Fox Lake, Ill., $18,600 per month in electrical bills at their Northwest Regional Water Reclamation Facility (NWRWRF). Energy savings were accomplished through a comprehensive approach to streamlining plant processes in conjunction with high efficiency equipment upgrades and renewal energy solutions.

The Oak Creek Water Treatment Plant Standby Power Upgrade project earned a State Finalist award in the Building/Technology Systems category. As the prime electrical engineering firm, Clark Dietz provided an innovative and efficient design solution that allowed new generators and equipment to be installed in existing confined building space without disrupting services. This project provided reliable standby power in Oak Creek facilities that allows the Oak Creek Water and Sewer Utility to continue to supply high quality water to valued customers during electric utility outages and facilitate future growth.
